Experienced climber Allie Lehrer is a senior at Rio Americano. Despite many injuries and setbacks during her climbing journey, Lehrer has managed to stay active in the climbing community.
Lehrer began her climbing journey last year around the Christmas season in search of an activity to keep her body and mind healthy.
“Bouldering has given me a great outlet to take my mind off stressors, and I can stay active,” Lehrer said.
She often backpacks, plays sports or participates in school events. She is also part of the American River Parkway Foundation.
She has been skiing since she was four and started snowboarding a few years ago.
Not only this but she has played football, soccer and lacrosse. This large amount of sports will lead to some setbacks. In her sports career, she has suffered six concussions, broken fingers, and torn cartilage in her ankle that ultimately led to her quitting soccer.
Despite these setbacks, Leher stays active in the climbing community at The Boulder Field.
She has managed to lead many new people to the climbing scene such as Diego Prieto from last issue’s Rock Climber of the Month.
“I love climbing with Allie,” Prieto said. “It’s such a great experience climbing with someone as motivated as her.”
After high school, Lehrer hopes to study a semester at Oxford in England.
She wants to find people with similar interests to her and share her wild side with them.
In the future, Lehrer hopes to be able to keep climbing as an outlet in her life during college.
Furthermore, she plans to begin lead climbing so she can expand her skills past bouldering.
