The Rowdy Raiders are a hard group to miss at sporting events. They lead the student section in chants and movements, making sure the crowd is full of energy. They are continually upbeat and enthusiastic on and off the field. They make Rio, Rio.
With the new school year, there is a new group of students heading the Rowdy Raiders, and they are very committed to the task.
Taking charge of the crowd may seem like a daunting task, but senior Ed Menzmer has a great time being a member of the group.
“It’s fun to be loud and crazy, and turn up with your friends while getting the crowd hype, and watching Rio win,” Menzmer said.
Every member of the club shows a big interest in sports. Across the board, the Rio vs. Jesuit is the event the Rowdy Raiders are the most excited about.
“It is one of the most classic sports rivalries at our school and the energy is always great,” senior Judah Ortego said.
The Rowdy Raiders work hard to make all students feel more connected.
“They bring our school together and make more people want to attend sporting events,” Ortego said. “They also make our school environment a better place to be a part of.”
But, being a Rowdy Raider is not all about sports. According to senior Evan Orma, the club is a great way to be more social and make more friends.
“Be as social as you can, and don’t be afraid to be yourself,” he said.
