The Rio Americano Girls Volleyball team is off to an excellent start going 26-4. They are number two in the league, and two-time winning CITV Tournament Champions.
Christian Brothers, who Rio lost to on Sept. 13, is first in the league.
“The team chemistry so far this season is good,” junior pin hitter Cameryn Berry said. “How the season goes is up to us, and we’ve been executing it well.”
Pre-season conditioning was five days a week for two to three hours.
“It’s definitely hard, but it pushes us,” sophomore Kate Ellis said.
While everyone agreed the practices were demanding, they expressed that they could see themselves improving everyday.
“We are extremely lucky to have that opportunity to get better,” Berry said.
In head coach John Grix’s 22 years of coaching for Rio, he got his 400th career win against Laguna Creek on Sept. 14.
“I think about the players and the families I’ve had the ability to work with, and how fortunate I am,” Grix said.
Ranked in top 11 overall players in California for 2023 is senior setter Grace Stone, who is number one on her team in assists (536) and in serving aces (51). She has been team captain on varsity since her sophomore year.
“I continue to watch Grace grow as a leader on the team,” Grix said. “I can see how hard the girls work. But we still have a long way to go.”

Interesting article. It is great that our volleyball team is getting some recognition! The CB vs Rio game tomorrow is going to be a close one. The stats are so impressive so far, a start to a great season! Especially impressive is Grace Stone, ranked in the top 11 in California. I hope to see more updates on the team, and I’m excited for a great year ahead. Good luck to all the women on the team!

I love that for our school. We should get a rematch with Christian Brothers and try to get that opportunity to move up to first in the league. Let’s keep up the good work raiders, you’re doing great!!
