Girls to Open Playoffs at Home
The girl’s volleyball regular season has come to an end, but there is more volleyball to come in the playoffs starting tonight.
The No. 5 seed Raiders take on No. 7 seed Placer at home tonight at 7 p.m. The girls are confident going into the game knowing they will play a familiar opponent.
“We beat Placer in preseason in five so we are excited to play them again in playoffs,” said senior Claire O’Neil.
The girls finished strong, beating Vista del Lago at home on Senior night last Thursday. Although the Raiders won 3-1, the games were close and hard fought and the home team had to come from behind one game with Vista within two points of the win. As a result of the win the girls finished second in the Capital Athletic League behind Christian Brothers.
“Our season has gone really well! The Vista game was awesome because we finished second in league, giving us a home game for playoffs.” said O’Neil.
The senior night celebration added to the emotions of the evening.
“The last game was full of tears and laughter and I have never loved a team so much,” said senior Hannah Nauertz. “I can’t wait for our first playoff game!”
In addition to O’Neil, who plays mid-right, and Nauertz, a defensive specialist, there are several key players to watch on this team that had made the most of its depth.
Look for contributions from senior Chyna Wright, who leads the team in digs; sophomore Lauren Coe, who leads in assists; sophomore Paige Gwaltney, who leads in kills; as well as other key players.
