Although we can’t possibly reverse all the damage that’s been done by climate change, there are things we can do to alleviate the harm. One of many solutions to address climate change is to increase the use of biking because it produces zero carbon emissions, requires much less energy and can lead to the preservation of ecosystems.
Driving can get you places in a timely manner, but it does nothing positive for the environment. Biking provides exercise and also contributes to the wellness of the environment. Automobiles rely on fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gases like methane and carbon dioxide, while biking releases no gases. In fact, choosing a bike over a car just once a day can reduce the average person’s carbon emissions from transportation by 67%.
Automobiles require much more energy than biking does, meaning biking promotes energy efficiency. Driving is also a lot more expensive than owning a bicycle. By owning a bicycle and making use of it, humans can conserve energy resources and help to reduce energy consumption.
Minimizing the use of cars and using bicycles instead can also lead to the preservation of natural habitats and ecosystems. Motor vehicles create the need for extensive transportation structures like roads and highways. This contributes to deforestation and the loss of biodiversity. Deforestation causes the carbon in trees to be released as carbon dioxide, which is another greenhouse gas causing global warming.

Its great to see someone talking about the effect a car-dependent society has on the environment and how to avoid CO2 emissions from transportation. Although I do drive to school, this article has changed my idea on how I should get to school and I will now bike to school (mostly because I only live a few minutes away).

This is really well written, the author has a great perspective! I agree that biking needs to become a more common practice as it much better for the climate and is safer! Rio has some students who bike to school but we definitely need to encourage a stronger biking culture.

I agree that biking should be promoted as a form of transportation over cars because it doesn’t rely on damaging fossil fuels, plus it’s a good form of exercise. However, I think it’s hard to get large numbers of people to start biking over driving. People travel long distances to go to work, school, and other places, and it’s often not feasible to bike the distance. Alongside that, many drivers don’t actively think about the fact that they share the road with others, making roads dangerous for those on bikes. While I think that biking should be promoted instead of driving because it can help save the environment, there’s many issues ingrained in our society that make driving preferable to the vast majority of people.
