Is Pumpkin Spice Overrated?
Pumpkin spice has been a symbol of fall since Starbucks introduced the Pumpkin Spice Latte 13 years ago.
There are over hundreds of pumpkin spice products that are made. Stores like Starbucks and Trader Joe’s advertised their pumpkin spice related products, like the pumpkin spice frappuccino and the Joe Joe’s pumpkin spice cookies, but maybe after all these years the famous flavor has been a little overrated.
Starbucks alone has sold over 200 million cups of the pumpkin spice latte since 2003, and with fall already here, pumpkin spice has been blowing up everywhere on social media. Many youtubers have already been doing pumpkin spice challenges and pumpkin spice tastings. Youtuber, Shane Dawson, does a thing where he makes insane milkshakes. A couple weeks ago he released a video where he made a pumpkin spice milkshake. This milkshake was no ordinary milkshake. He added every product possible that made the flavor pumpkin spice. Dawson poured in pop tarts, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice frappuccinos, and more. Dawson is known for these insane videos but he is not the only youtuber to go this overboard with pumpkin spice.
Youtuber, Zoella, also did a DIY for making pumpkin spice cupcakes that got one million views. The pumpkin spice challenge has been going around the internet for years starting in the fall. The challenge is you get a whole bunch of products that create pumpkin spice and you try them. Why does this flavor get so much attention and not others like chocolate and vanilla?
I feel like pumpkin spice is getting a bit overrated because it’s not very tasty to me. I’ve never liked it, but I’m not discouraging anyone from liking it either.
There are also videos on how to make a pumpkin spice latte costume for Halloween, which I find funny that it’s been that big of an impact of our lives to make a costume out of it.
If you like pumpkin then maybe carve pumpkins or roast the seeds. That has been a fall and Halloween tradition for a longer time, it’s fun to do that with family and spend time with them.
In my opinion, I feel like you really have to like pumpkin to like pumpkin spice. There’s no way to describe it, it’s a type of flavor that you either like or you don’t there’s no in between.
What ever happened to it just being a flavor, some people treat it like it’s their purpose in life to drink a pumpkin spice latte, which is ridiculous.
Going back to my point, things like that make me think the love for this is too extreme and it’s tiring to see a lot of people obsess over it. It’s like a song on the radio. You hear it the first time it’s pretty good, but after the 100 time it gets really old. That’s exactly how I feel with the whole pumpkin spice situation.
I’ve tried to like it and get with the trend, I could never do it. It just tastes odd to me, but everyone is different like I said you either like it or you don’t.
