City Eatery Has New Way to Indulge in Shaved Ice
Vampire Penguin is a unique dessert place downtown. Specialties include shaved snow and other delicious desserts.
The shaved snow at isn’t typical; it doesn’t melt or get packed down when when syrup is poured on it. It’s also much softer and fluffier.
Open every day from noon to 8 p.m. or on some days to 9 p.m., the restaurant portrays a modern vibe. One of the first things noticed is a big penguin painted behind the counter where you order. Above the counter is a TV with the menu projected on it. Pictures of vampires and some penguins along with some different monsters line the restaurant.
It’s not a self-serve place and the workers are very helpful and friendly.
The first step to getting your dessert is to choose a size and flavor of syrup from a wide variety. Options include strawberry, mango, taro, green tea, and cookies and cream.
Next, you get to pick your toppings, which vary depending on the size of your dessert and if you are willing to pay an extra 50 cents. Toppings vary from Oreos, caramel, marshmallows, jackfruits, coconut gel and lychee.
You have the option to create your own dessert or order from a set menu.
On the menu, the desserts are unlike anything you’ve ever heard. For example, there is a dessert called the Snow Tiger. It’s Thai tea and milk tea flavored snow paired with bits of Oreo and condensed milk.
Even if it doesn’t sound appetizing, it will shock you. If you aren’t into a bunch of strong flavors, I would recommend not getting the strawberry cheesecake snow.
There are two sizes to choose from: small and large. The large is a good sharing size for you and friends or if you have a big appetite that’s great for you.
Another option is to get a snow in a to-go container, which is just like the cups you get when you get frozen yogurt, but if you would like to sit down and eat at the restaurant you can. The dessert comes out on a glass plate that goes along with their modern theme.
The presentation of the desserts is another thing to compliment because their arrangement of food on the plates are beautiful. They do a nice job of drizzling sauce in pretty ways.
Vampire penguin is very creative when comes to thinking of what food is going to surprise you.
It’s definitely worth a try.
