The Rio Americano Mathletes took their first top finish in the team’s decade-long history at the final competition of the season yesterday.
The Mathletes placed first out of 25 schools at the final competition, which has been hosted by Rio for the last three years. Each of the five team members collected the highest averages across three events.
The group also came in fourth overall for the season.
“It was a defining moment for the graduating seniors and officers,” co-president Logan Hennigsen said. “We have competed for four years and never gotten a first-place prize.”
The team, which is coached by Svetlana Popov, includes Henningsen, senior Olivia Huang, junior Logan Freeland, sophomore Maximus Jackson and freshman Joongse Kim.
