Rio Americano will hold its annual Culture Fair on April 8 in the quad. This year’s event is taking place after school from 3:45 to 6 p.m. to allow more students and parents to attend.
Attendees will be immersed in the diverse cultures of Rio while they try different foods and watch performances. The event will also feature a new activity, the “World Brawl,” in which different types of wrestlers from various cultures will perform.
“We hope that this will be open for more discussions on diversity, so our students can learn more about these cultures and learn more about their fellow classmates,” vice principal Jennifer Keith said.
The culture fair was moved to after school hours because many students were unable to attend during the school day in past years.
Keith is helping coordinate the fair with students from the equity team.
“We were seeing how the culture fair would take place during school hours, people had either gone multiple times or didn’t go at all without needing their teachers to sign up the class to go,” Keith said. “We worked with the equity team to make sure it’ll work out with the worries of it becoming crowded or messy.”

As an avid attendee of Culture Day for the past 3 years, I’m looking forward to see how these changes will turn out, and hopefully for the better! I want to thank the Equity Team for working so hard to ensure that every student’s voice is heard and every country is being accurately represented! Now that it’s being hosted after school, my peers and I can finally schedule to go together without the worry of teachers’ permission or what we might miss during class! See you guys at the upcoming World Fair!
