Four Rio Americano High School seniors have been selected to appear in the California Art Education Association’s Youth Art Month exhibit.
Serena Mood, Sienna Barelli, Cali Holcomb and Alexandra Tasakos all submitted paintings for the “Healing Through Color” theme. Their work is among 100 pieces appearing in this year’s CAEA Sacramento youth showcase.
“My piece is of Florence from Florence + the Machine, and titled ‘In the Moment,'” Tasakos told the Mirada. “I made it when I saw an edit of her singing their cover song ‘Girl With One Eye.’ I was so captivated by it that I watched it over and over again, and I knew that I had to make it for myself. I used watercolor and worked on it maybe less than a month. It was pretty fun and interesting to do since I mostly never do foreshortening and painting, but it was a great learning experience.”
The paintings are currently on display at the PBS KVIE studios at 2030 W. El Camino Ave. An awards ceremony will take place this Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m.
