The San Juan Unified School District has added six new electric school buses to its fleet.
The buses were introduced through the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Grant.
Reduced fossil fuel emissions and increased sustainability are just some of the benefits, the district said.
“Nearly identical to their fuel-operated counterparts, these fully electric vehicles are also quieter than traditional school buses, allowing drivers to better monitor passenger conversations and behavior during routes,” spokesperson Raj Rai said.
San Juan Unified operates buses for special and alternative education students. The district eliminated all other bus transportation in 2011.
