History teacher deployed to Middle East
Social science and history teacher Brian Brickey left Rio on Jan. 19 for a nine-month deployment with the Army Reserves. After attending training in California and Texas, Brickey will head to Jordan and Lebanon. He will return to Rio in 2025. “The Imaginary Invalid” winter play premieres this week
Rio’s winter play, “The Imaginary Invalid,” will debut this week, with three evening shows from Jan. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Betty Miller Theater. The production is a French comedy about a man who believes he is sick with every illness. To view a slideshow of the dress rehearsal click here.
Participate in Valentine’s Day Film Festival
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Rio Media is holding a short film contest about “Love”–however you interpret that. Your film may be funny, sad, joyful or any other emotion, but the most emotional film wins. Winners will play on a special Valentine’s Day Edition of the Rio Bulletin. Registration is this Friday, Jan. 26. Come to I-6 at lunch or after school to choose two of fourteen titles. Your film must use and be inspired by one or both of these titles. Take the school climate survey
San Juan Unified is looking for students and parents to take their annual district climate survey, which helps with planning and decision making. To take the survey and read more about it, click here.
Civics Engagement Diploma Seal application now open
Applications for the 2023-2024 California State Seal of Civic Engagement are now open. The opportunity is available to high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated excellence in civics education and participation, and those who have shown a thorough understanding of the United States’ Constitution and government. Kiwanis Jazz Festival at Rio Thursday
This Thursday, Rio Americano will be hosting the 39th annual Wayne Reimers Jazz Festival, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael. Performances will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the PAC, as well as M1 and M2. Three Jazz Bands from Rio will perform, along with groups from Arcade, Arden, Bella Vista, Carnegie, Casa Roble, Churchill and Mira Loma. It’s free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
