Rio to Host College Night Sept 22
While it’s probably impossible to visit more than 60 colleges and universities before graduating from high school, the San Juan school district is bringing those institutions to students during the Rio and Beyond College Night on Sept. 22.
The event is open to all students in the district from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Rio.
“College night offers students a unique opportunity to meet representatives from dozens of four-year universities, community colleges and vocational programs – all in one place at one time,” said Dianne Tully, one of the coordinators of the event. “Our hope is that students learn about and become inspired by programs they previously were not aware of.”
In addition to representative from a variety of colleges and universities, the event will include Hawiian food, tacos, lemonades and shaved-ice desserts from area restaurants.
While the event is open to all district students and parents, it is put on by Rio and Beyond, a parent group that does extensive volunteer work to help students plan for the next steps after high school.
“A lot of volunteer work goes into this event and we sincerely hopeRio students find it helpful
