Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors

Several scholarships are now available to seniors to apply for, including the PTSA Scholarship, Bryan Potts Scholarship and Jackson Laboratory College Scholarship.

The PTSA awards eight $500 scholarships to seniors every spring semester. Students must be a part of the Rio PTSA to be eligible and can join the PTSA here.

The Bryan Potts Scholarship is in remembrance of Bryan Potts, a member of the class of 1986, and is available to Rio students only, so seniors are encouraged to apply. One student will be awarded up to $10,000, and the selection committee will look for a student who emulates the qualities of Potts, an inquisitive and self-aware person who led an affection and humorous life.

To be eligible students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and fill out the application by March 12, which includes a short essay and two letters of recommendation. More information regarding the Bryan Potts Scholarship can be found here.

The Jackson Laboratory College Scholarship is for student from underserved backgrounds obtaining a college degree in pursuit of a career in biomedicine. Three seniors will receive $10,000 awards, and the scholarship is only offered to those residing in Maine, Connecticut and Sacramento County.

Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need, have a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher and be be nominated by a teacher, counselor or administrator. More information regarding the Jackson Laboratory College Scholarship can be found here.

Additionally, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application is due March 2. All seniors are encouraged to apply regardless of economic status.
