San Juan schools will continue in distance learning until further notice. 

“Given the trend in health data in recent weeks, district staff have determined that it is unlikely Sacramento County can reach the red tier in time for a planned Jan. 5 return to modified in-person learning option,” said a Dec. 3 statement from the district. “To protect the health and safety of students, staff and community, the return to in-person learning is being postponed until health data improves.”

Sacramento County is now in the purple, or highest, tier for COVID-19 transmission. This means that there are more than 7 new cases each day per 100,000 people in the county and that more than 8 percent of coronavirus test results are positive. 

As long as the county is in the purple tier, students will not return to campus. Once the county improves to the red, or second-worst, tier, schools will have to wait two weeks before reopening. 

San Juan still plans for students to return to campus part-time as soon as health conditions allow. Students have been assigned into cohorts. To find out which cohort you have been assigned to, have your parent or guardian look in the Parent Portal.

Class will continue on Zoom in the current schedule, including on Wednesdays. When the district thought that hybrid learning would begin on Jan. 5, they planned to allow teachers prep time on Wednesdays. Because hybrid learning is delayed, that plan was cancelled.

The district has also said it will issue updates each Thursday afternoon on its website.
