The yearbook staff completed work on the 2020 Tesoro earlier this week, but printing of the book won’t begin until April 27–at the earliest.

The Herff Jones printing plant in Kansas closed on March 23 as part of the shutdowns across the country to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. The plant is scheduled to reopen on April 27.

Yearbook adviser Michael Mahoney said that if the plant opens then that yearbooks will be ready for delivery before the end of the school year.

“Normally, it takes a month after we submit our last pages until the book is delivered, and I have been told that the plant will be expediting orders,” he said.

Mahoney added that yearbook distribution is still being worked out.

“Distribution will depend on what rules are in place for social distancing in May or June, but one way or another we will be distributing yearbooks on campus.”

Mahoney added that nobody can guarantee the plant will re-open at the end of April, but he has been in contact with the Herff Jones representative who has not yet heard of any new restriction that would lengthen the closure.

“Of course, the main concern is for the health of the plant workers,” Mahoney said. “If health precautions cause further delays, I understand that. No one should risk their life to print a yearbook. And I promise that at some point we will be distributing yearbooks.”

Because of the campus closure, yearbooks are being sold only online at yearbookordercenter.com (school code 7547).
