Rio Americano’s beginning photography class, taught by Michael Mahoney, recently turned their classroom into a giant camera obscura. First they covered all the windows and door cracks with black plastic to make the room completely dark. Everyone worked together to make sure no light got in. Then they hung a big white sheet in the middle of the room hanging from the ceiling using ladders and clips. After that, they cut a tiny hole in the plastic on one window. When light came through the little hole the outside world showed up on the sheet but it was upside down. They could see trees moving in the wind and students walking by. “It was really fun and I had a good time,” sophomore Logan Waters said.
