Nothing beats a homicidal clown for great terror. At least not among Rio Americano students, who chose “It,” the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel as their favorite scary movie.
In a Mirada survey of about 100 students, “It” topped second place, “Scream” (series starting in 1996) and a scattering of responses ranging from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974) to “Heredity” (2018) to “Terrifier” (2016), which may be frighteningly fresh in students’ minds as the third installment is now in theaters.
“It” tells the story of a group of misfit kids who band together to kill a shape-shifting demon, Pennywise, who appears as a nightmarish clown. The movie covers the first part of the novel. “It Chapter 2” (2019) picks up the story 27 years later when the group reassembles in Derry, Maine, to finish off Pennywise once and for all.
