Avid Boulder Field member Diego Prieto is a skilled athlete, achieving more than most seasoned climbers after only four months of training.
At the end of the summer, a senior at Rio, wanted to get more active, so his close friends Aidan Hewitt and Allie Lehrer started taking him to The Boulder Field, which he quickly fell in love with. He enjoys being able to get a workout in while also having a great time climbing.
Training is diverse among climbers and some push harder than others.
“I’ve been training hard ever since I started bouldering in the summer,” Prieto said. “The Boulder Field is my second home.”
The Boulder Field is a hub for Prieto to meet up with climbers. Most of his time spent bouldering is with fellow Raiders who got him into climbing.
In the gym, Prieto shows passion through his drive to send new boulders.
“Watching Diego accel through the ranks is fascinating,” Lehrer said. “He is truly a strong climber.”
When getting ready to climb, Diego has a special routine. He slides his Tarantulace shoes on and gets on the wall. He sends lower-grade climbs and works his way up to harder grades. Now he is warmed up to start climbing!
Prieto shows impressive skills in his bouldering and will continue to get stronger. His bouldering expertise and strong reputation have earned him the position of “Climber of the Month.”
Not only is Prieto an impressive climber, he also has other special interests. Prieto has been drawing ever since he can remember and has built quite a reputation for it.
